Night Flight

Standard

Put your goggles on and remember
that the night tastes
good
the way your mama’s pumpkin pie tastes
good
Make a cape from your worries and
remember that the night will
eat you alive without your
cape
But taste the night
eat up its goodness
ready a pack of needles and thorns
and squirming bunny rabbits.

And remember that the night is
long
the way a dancer’s stride is
long
because the way to the end of the world is
long
Pull your hair back tight and run into
the night
with your cape
and your pack
and your goggles
Jump from the trees and let the stars
burn your toes.
and when at first the light is rising,
remember that the night is
long and short
remember that the night may
eat you but that it tastes
good
and find the ground again
use your cape of worries to
keep the bunny rabbits warm
and throw you thorns
at the worries that unravel
from your cape
With your needles
sew yourself a magic carpet
from leaves and
blue star powder
While you sew, remember
that the night will not remember you.

Taste the night
while you fly
Know that your toes will heal
Be quiet when you crawl into bed
Wrap your toes
Flush your magic carpet

down the toilet
Let the bunny rabbits go
Cast your worries into the wind
Remember to let your hair down
and take your goggles off
And remember, when you put your goggles on again
you will have to find your own delicious night.
